Social Studies
It is School District 62’s philosophy and belief that the discipline of Social Studies prepares students to participate in community affairs within a global society.
The District 62 Social Studies Curriculum will empower students with the necessary confidence, skills and tools to be lifelong learners and productive members of a democratic society.
As students progress from kindergarten through eighth grade, they will move from developing an awareness to demonstrating an understanding of the culture, history, customs, and events around the globe. The progression of the curriculum is egocentric to esoteric (self, family and school, neighborhood, community, state, nation, and world).
The District 62 Social Studies Curriculum is based on The Illinois Learning Standards and The National Council for the Social Studies’ (NCSS) C3 Framework.
