Student's Get Involved with Chicagoland's Children's Book Bank!
This week, 8th grade students took a field trip to Bernie's Book Bank in Lake Bluff.
Bernie's Book Bank provides free books to children in the Chicagoland area.
ICS 8th graders were excited to help sort and organize books for students that don't have easy access to them.
Research has shown that access to books at home is important to a child's academic development.
The students had a great time listening to music and collaborating with each other while getting the books organized.
Students developed various strategies to maximize how many books they were able to sort and get ready for shipment.
Not only will the recipients of the books benefit from this project. Volunteering boosts self-confidence and gives a person a strong sense of accomplishment.
Since 2009 Bernie's Book Bank has distributed more than 24 million free children's books to counties such as Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will.
Thank you to the ICS 8th graders for helping with Bernie's Book Bank!
