This spring, Iroquois Community School's 4th and 5th Grade Student Council members took action and made a real difference in the community.

Fourth Grade Teacher Ms. Madeline Redding and Third Grade Teacher Ms. Rosalie Stanley, who oversee the student council, said the students were the ones who organized the school's 3rd annual clothing drive, taking the lead in planning the event from start to finish.

From designing eye-catching posters to promoting the drive and sorting donations, the young leaders collected and packed up clothing donated by ICS staff, students, and families between April 2 and April 11.

All items were donated to the Des Plaines Self-Help Closet, supporting families in need and promoting sustainability.

In addition, just before the ICS spring intersession, the Student Council joined forces with the Middle School Student Government to host a spirit week packed with school pride and community purpose.

While students had fun dressing up for daily themes, they also gave back by participating in a food drive to benefit the Des Plaines Self- Help Pantry.

Each day highlighted a different category of requested items, helping meet specific needs in the local community.

"Through teamwork, creativity, and compassion, our 4th and 5th Grade Student Council continues to demonstrate what student leadership is all about," said Redding and Stanley.
