Arbor Day Festivities
Students, staff and city representatives celebrated Arbor Day at Iroquois Community School on Friday, April 26.
The Des Plaines Forestry Team helped the 4th and 5th grade students plant a beautiful red oak tree on the school grounds.
The team taught them about forestry, including the proper way to plant and care for the tree.
Alderman Mark Walsten was on hand to present staff and students with an Arbor Day proclamation.
Also present for the tree planting event were Jill Gambino, Communications and Events Associate with the City of Des Plaines, and Miguel Reyes, Forestry Crew Leader, both of whom are Iroquois Community School alumni!
The students painted stones with inspirational pictures and messages and placed them around the base of the tree.
The tree will be enjoyed by the school and the community for generations to come!
