Spelling Bee Creates a Buzz!
On Wednesday, November 6, the D62 Education Foundation held its first-ever spelling bee!
The fundraising event, which was held at the historic Des Plaines Theater, brought out nearly 30 students representing almost every D62 school!
Students signed up according to their grade level - 3rd/4th grade, 5/6th grade and 7/8th grade.
The students all took center stage and family and friends cheered them on as they stepped up to the microphone.
The students high-fived each other and clapped for one another, showcasing amazing sportsmanship and camaraderie.
A total of six rounds were played and the last student standing taking home the overall grand prize was Luke S., a sixth grader from Iroquois Community School!
Students and their siblings also were treated to balloon animals that evening!
Thank you to all of the students, family, friends and staff who came out that evening to support not only the spellers, but also the D62 Education Foundation.
All money raised will be given back to the district in the form of grants for the teachers, providing unique opportunities for students such as field trips, clubs and other extracurricular events and activities.
Stay tuned for future D62 Education Foundation events!
