Second Accessible Playground is Officially Open!

Second Accessible Playground is Officially Open!
CCSD62

Students, families, staff and community members celebrated the grand opening of its second new, fully accessible playground at Forest Elementary School, 1375 South Fifth Avenue, Des Plaines, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 2.

Playground renovations took place at Forest, as well as at Cumberland Elementary School, this spring.

“We are incredibly proud to unveil yet another accessible playground, which represents a significant step forward in our continued focus to create a welcoming environment for all children” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Amadei. “It is our hope that this playground is a source of joy and connection for our Des Plaines and Rosemont communities.”

Both playgrounds feature a variety of universally designed equipment that cater to a range of physical and developmental abilities, allowing for children to enjoy the new site.

This project was made possible through the generous support of Rivers Casino.

“We have had the pleasure of watching our students enjoy this playground,” said Principal Amber Soike. “We are proud to offer a space where all children can play together for years to come. May this playground foster friendships and strengthen our Forest community.”

Cumberland recently celebrated the grand opening of its playground with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in May.
