District 62 middle school students were recognized at the May 18 Board of Education Meeting as part of the Middle School Students You Should Know recognition program.

A total of 27 students from Algonquin Middle School, Chippewa Middle School and Iroquois Community School were recognized in the categories of curiosity, compassion and courage.

The students were nominated by their middle school teachers and principals.

Curiosity: A curious student has a desire to learn and understand what’s happening in the classroom as well as the world around them. This student goes above and beyond, embracing a love of learning, challenging the status quo with thoughtful questions. Curiosity is about the relentless pursuit of knowledge and discovery.

Compassion: A compassionate student turns empathy into action. They are thoughtful and observant, making sure that others are included. This student gives to the community, supports his/her peers or possesses a deep, reliable kindness. Compassion is about putting the well-being of others at the forefront.

Courage: A courageous student does the right thing, even when it’s incredibly difficult. Middle school can be a tough environment. This student embraces who they are. They might have overcome severe personal or academic obstacles or adversity or taken a risk to advocate for something or someone they believe in. Courage is about bravery, resilience and integrity in the face of fear or difficulty.
