Please Spell the Word DECIBELS
The winners of the first-ever D62 Education Foundation Spelling Bee were recognized at the February 18 Board of Education Meeting.
The spelling bee was held at the Des Plaines Theater last fall and more than 30 students from across the district came out to participate.
It was an evening of students high-fiving each other and cheering one another on as they took center stage at the theater. Students were recognized in three different grade levels, two of which ended up in a tie!
Third/fourth grade level winners were Isaias B., a 3rd grade student from Cumberland Elementary School, and Emin N., a 3rd grader from Central Elementary School.
The winner of the fifth/sixth grade level was Luke S., a 6th grade student from Iroquois Community School.
Seventh/eighth grade winners were Lance H., a 7th grade student from Chippewa Middle School, and Mahi S., also a 7th grade student from Chippewa.
A total of six rounds were played and the last student standing taking home the overall grand prize was Luke, who won by spelling the word "decibels."
Congratulations to all of the winners and thank you to all of those who participated in the event!
