Keynote Speaker: Every Adult Plays a Role in a Child's Life
While students had the day off, D62 staff gathered together at Algonquin Middle School on February 18 to listen to a keynote speaker as part of their Professional Learning Day.
The speaker that morning was Dr. Doug Bolton, Director of School Consultation with Formative Psychological Services, and a licensed clinical psychologist who has worked with children, adolescents, adults and families for more than 25 years.
Dr. Bolton talked about the importance every adult plays in creating a culture of belonging in schools.
He emphasized that at the core of education is the feeling to belong and to feel supported by all adults the child comes in contact with throughout the day.
Encouraging, supporting and "making deposits" in a student's life or "bank account" can have long lasting positive affects that will help them through inevitable tough situations that "withdraw" from their account.
Dr. Bolton also addressed how all District 62 staff can support challenging behaviors and connect with students in their hardest moments.
