D62 and Maine West Band and Orchestra Music Festival
District 62 middle school concert band and orchestra students and Maine West High School music students recently came together for a musical collaboration.
All of the concert band and orchestra students from Algonquin Middle School, Chippewa Middle School and Iroquois Community School went to Maine West High School during the school day to work with a professional orchestra clinician.
The clinician taught them the nuances of string pedagogy, technique and musicianship.
In addition, the D62 music students met with the Maine West Band and Orchestra Directors and the high school band/orchestra students in a question and answer session.
Mr. Dominique Radtke, orchestra teacher at Iroquois Community School, said this annual event is a fabulous learning opportunity for all orchestra students.
Mr. Radtke said it is specifically important for the eighth grade students with their transition into the music programs at Maine West.
Following the field trip that day, family and friends were treated to a musical performance at the high school that evening showcasing all of their hard work.
