The image shows a smiling young girl wearing glasses and a denim jacket, with text stating that she is a 3rd grader and an inventor, against a purple and green background.

Central Elementary School student Ayana K. will have the honor of having her picture on a billboard in the Chicagoland throughout the month of August!

Ayana, an incoming fourth grader, took first place among all third graders in the state of Illinois at the US National Student Invention Convention at The Henry Ford Museum of Innovation earlier this summer.

She won the top honors with her invention, "Hush Patrol."  Hush Patrol is a wall clock that monitors noise levels to quiet down a loud classroom or lunchroom.

When the noise level gets too high, the device will alert the class by lighting up and emitting calm sounds.

Ayana was one of 29 students from the state of Illinois who competed at Invention Convention Worldwide’s National competition in Dearborn, MI.  She joined 490 K–12 inventors from across the country, attended workshops and networked with fellow innovators.

The students even had the opportunity to pitch their inventions to producers from the TV show "Shark Tank!"
