All of the Southside elementary schools (Forest, Orchard Place, South and Plainfield) 5th grade band and orchestra students performed their final concert of the school year at Algonquin Middle School on May 16.
Special guest percussionist that evening was Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Amadei.
Dr. Amadei was featured on the drum set for the orchestra's final song, "Twist and Shout," a version covered famously by the Beatles.
Dr. Amadei also be performed with the 5th grade beginning band for their final piece of the evening, "Dragon Slayer," playing the gong which represented the calling of the dragon.
Fifth Grade Southside Band Director Stephanie Strzalka said she and Fifth Grade Southside Orchestra Director Nicole Krygeris extended the invitation to Dr. Amadei to play with the band.
Strzalka said they were thrilled to have Dr Amadei join the 5th graders for this final performance of the school year and are very thankful for his support and advocacy for the D62 Music Department.
