Athletes Shine at Special Olympics Summer Games

In mid-June seven District 62 athletes competed in the Special Olympics Summer Games on the campus of Illinois State University in Bloomington-Normal.

The athletes competed in various events, including a tennis ball throw, a 50 meter non-motorized wheelchair run, a 50 meter run and a 50 meter assisted walk.

Athletes, coaches and families kicked off the weekend with participating in and watching the opening ceremonies.

The students ended their weekend with new medals, including 3 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal!

It was a great weekend celebrating our amazing athletes and their accomplishments over the track and field season!
