Students Pack Lunches for Those in Need

Cumberland Elementary School students from the BEST (Behavioral and Emotional Supported Teaching) program, with the help of some students in the ELS program, engaged in a meaningful in-house field trip, where they prepared sack lunches for Uncle Pete's Ministry.

This initiative aimed to serve individuals experiencing homelessness and food insecurities in the community.

The students participated in the preparation of nutritious sack lunches, which were distributed to those in need by Uncle Pete's Ministry.

The students also raised funds to support the organization through a snack sale to teachers during lunch hours.

The BEST program is dedicated to fostering empathy and social responsibility among our students, stated Nelly Hernandez, SPED BEST Intermediate Teacher.

Hernandez said, "The field trip allowed our students to apply their DBT (dialectical behavior therapy) skills in a real-world setting, making a tangible difference in the lives of those experiencing food insecurity."
