Third Graders Perfect Their Soccer Skills

Three young boys are playing with a colorful ball on a basketball court with blue walls and a projection screen in the background.

Cumberland Elementary School third graders enjoyed perfecting their soccer skills in Ms. Sarah Hamman's gym class.

After doing a dribbling warm-up, the students started with a game of soccer tag.

Two students were selected to be "it" and were given a pool noodle with the goal of tagging as many soccer balls as they could in the time they were given.

The other students had to dribble and kick their soccer ball around the gym trying to avoid the students who were "it."

The students played several rounds of this game so all of them had a chance to be "it."

The students then played a soccer game in which five bowling pins were set up in a row in the four corners of the gym.

Ms. Hamman divided the students up in to four groups, each group wearing a different colored jersey.

Each group had two to three defensive players and two offensive players.

The defenders had the job of protecting the bowling pins as the other groups tried to knock them down with their soccer ball.

If they succeeded in knocking a pin down they could put it in their corner with their pins.

The students had a blast running around the gym and kicking their balls in an attempt to collect the most pins.
