Kindergarteners "Jump" into Musical Exploration

Three children, a girl with pigtails, a boy in a green shirt, and another girl, are standing in front of a green screen background.

Kindergarteners in Mr. Coon's music class at Cumberland Elementary School are learning class routines and expectations and are adapting well!

To start the new school year off, Mr. Coon said the class has been exploring basic music concepts.

For example, he said they have been learning about steady musical beats while marching to the song "Engine Engine #9."

The class has also been focusing on musical comparatives, such as high and low melodies, using active listening and creative movements with scarves.

Finally, the class has been learning about voice types through a fun nursery rhyme story chant called “Queen Caroline.”

Mr. Coon said the students have literally “jumped” right in to exploring music and building their first musicianship skills!
