Author Elizabeth Retter and her canine star, Easton the Rescue Dog, brought their story to Cumberland Elementary School students.

Retter was an elementary school teacher for 25 years before becoming a children's book author.

The visit began with Retter leading the students in "Easton's Song."

She then spoke about how she found Easton at a rescue shelter in Pennsylvania.

Even though it was a long drive from her home in Toronto, Canada, Retter knew that Easton was meant to be a part of her family.

The author's books tell about the adventures of Easton, which are often inspired by real-life situations.

For example, her first book, The Adventures of Easton the Rescue Pet: Homeward Bound, is about Easton's ride home for the first time.

Retter also read one of her newest, unreleased book to the students.

Retter talked about the importance of animal rescue and how she dedicates her time to helping all types of animals find homes. After the readings, Retter took questions from the students, telling them more about Easton and her writing process.

The students loved hearing about Easton's adventures and are looking forward to reading the other books in the series.
