Students to Shine in the Special Olympics

Cumberland
Students from across District 62 participated in the Special Olympics at Prospect High School in Mount Prospect on May 10.
A team of 27 athletes from Cumberland Elementary School, Terrace Elementary School, Algonquin Middle School and Chippewa Middle School represented District 62 in a variety of sporting events.
"This event provided our students with the opportunity to showcase their talents and sportsmanship," said Assistant Superintendent for Student Services Dr. Ramona DeCristofaro.
"This is the first time District 62 students have participated in the Special Olympics and we could not be more proud of them.”
According to the Special Olympics website, Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Those activities give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship.
