Students Take Flight

Algonquin Middle School students had a blast flying drones, taking flying lessons and making gliders in Ms. Karen Citera's Flight Club.

Some students spent time testing out the drones they had built in the Drone Soccer Cub.

After the students connected the controller to their drones, they practiced flying them up and down the hallway.

According to one student, the controls are very sensitive so they needed to be careful as to how soft or hard they were moving the joysticks.

Other students spent time practicing flying lessons using the club's flight simulators.

Two students planned how they were going to build their glider, a replica of a Cessna 172 Skyhawk.

They discussed what materials they were going to use to make the glider's body and wings.

The students didn't want to use something too heavy, but they wanted to make sure it had enough weight as well.

The Flight Club is an exciting opportunity for students to develop a love of engineering, creativity and flying!
