Special Education Program Updates and FAQ

Community Consolidated School District 62 prides itself on the special education services it provides to just under 800 students in the district.

This past school year, the District began to review programming and services being offered in an attempt to ensure that children are receiving the most appropriate services and support available. The information below includes a summary of the steps taken, answers to frequently asked questions and the timeline of training and next steps as we focus on continuous improvement and providing a high quality special education program in District 62.

Special Education Program Review: Historical Perspective

In December 2024, District 62 engaged empowerED School Solutions to conduct a comprehensive review of the district’s special education programs and service delivery model. This initiative was undertaken in alignment with the District 62’s strategic plan and mission to cultivate an inclusive and innovative learning environment that inspires students to pursue rigorous academics, realize their potential, and develop as compassionate lifelong learners.

The review was informed by a thorough analysis of multiple data sources, including student achievement and demographic data, classroom observations in 138 district classrooms, focus groups with staff, administrators, and families, stakeholder survey responses, and an examination of relevant district documents.

EmpowerED completed and presented its Executive Summary of the report, which outlines key findings and recommendations. These findings will serve as the foundation for the district’s next steps, beginning with the establishment of a Guiding Coalition to lead this work forward.
