Transportation

The Board of Education approved the contract with First Student to provide regular transportation services for the District. Their phone number is (847) 635-9877.

SEPTRAN, the current provider, will continue providing summer school transportation this coming summer. SEPTRAN will also continue providing the District’s Special Education transportation services during the 2012-2013 School Year.

Free Riders
District 62 provides free bus transportation for students (K-8) who live more than 1.5 miles from their school. This service is available at no cost to the students because the district receives partial reimbursement from the State of Illinois.

Pay Riders
Students (K-8) who live within 1.5 miles of their school may ride the bus for an annual fee depending on the availability of seats on an existing bus.

Traffic Safety and Our Schools
Through the years, Des Plaines Police Department has worked with each school and its neighbors to implement a plan that allows for traffic to flow safely. The success of this plan depends on the willingness of parents to adhere to signs and follow traffic laws.

Problems develop as many schools are located in residential areas. Morning errivals and afternoon dismissals bring congestion to our smaller streets. Double parking and standing, sign violations, blocking crosswalks and driveways all impede the flow of traffic and create a dangerous situation for our children.

Suggestion, Comment, and Reporting
The Des Plaines Police Department is dedicated to traffic safety around our schools. During the pick-up and drop-off time traffic sergeants will be monitoring traffic flow until school is dismissed for the summer.

Parents who drive their ctildren to school are asked to obey all traffic regulations.

Please contact Commander Chet Zaprzalka via email czaprzalka@desplaines.org, or call (847) 391-6129 with suggestions and comments.

For assistance with crossing guard, please contact Officer Michael Heidkamp #416, Des Plaines Police Department, 1420 Miner St. Des Plaines, IL.60016, or call (847) 391-5408.
