PTC Mission Statement
To bring the home and school closer together so parents and teachers cooperate in the education of the child. To assist Terrace School in providing practical programs that enrich our children’s learning process.

"Another fundraiser?! Where does all
the PTC money go?"
These are questions frequently heard in light of all the fundraising activities that are sponsored by the Terrace PTC. Here is a summary (PDF) of where the money has gone during the 2006-2007 school year. We welcome your questions, comments, or help.

PTC Programs/Activities
- Bookfair: This
week-long event is held twice a year and offers students and parents a
wide-selection of reasonably priced Scholastic books and assorted accessories.
- Boxtops: “Boxtops
for Education” are collected and turned in to raise funds.
- Calendar/Membership/Directory: For your PTC membership fee, you get a calendar of all
school/PTC events, holidays/days off, and meetings. You also get an invaluable school directory that lists
children and parents by classroom.
- Caucus: The
Des Plaines School Board Caucus selects candidates for the General Election of
the Des Plaines District 62 School Board. A representative from our school attends meetings, interviews candidates
and votes for the final candidates’ endorsements.
- Celebrate Des Plaines: The
City of Des Plaines sets up a tree for each area school in the downtown
area. Children from Terrace will
join children all over the city in making personalized decorations and hanging
them on their tree at the start of the holiday season.
- Cultural Arts: Unique,
educational events are planned by the PTC for the whole school to learn from
and enjoy. These monthly events
are presented during school hours.
- Dad’s Pancake Breakfast: A fun morning of yummy breakfast food cooked up by
Terrace Dads.
- Family Gym Nights : You
and your children can play together with classmates and their parents in these
age-specific nights of fun and games in the gym.
- Family Movie Night: Parents and their children watch a popular movie in
the gym while enjoying snacks purchased at our concession stand. Children can wear their pajamas and
bring sleeping bags and pillows.
- Family Reading: An
event to celebrate the joys of reading with your children.
- Family Services: Offers
new family hospitality and Spanish and Polish speaking services to aid the
families of Terrace.
- Fundraising: Various
fundraising events are planned throughout the year to support the school via
the PTC.
- Hobby Night: Your child can
display his/her hobby in the gym for all his classmates and their parents to
enjoy. Is held one evening in
conjunction with the Book Fair.
- Hostess Rep: Organizes and
disperses funds to Room Parents. Starts the phone tree to communicate with parents about snow days.
- Hotdog Lunch The day before
school ends, this lunch is a fun way to end the year.
- Kindergarten Potluck: A dinner and program for families of all
kindergarteners, it’s a great way to get to know other parents and become
involved in your child’s new school.
- Market Day: This is the PTC’s
main fundraiser. Monthly order
sheets are provided for parents to complete either on paper or over the
internet (www.marketday.com). Pickup day is the second or third Tuesday of each month at the school.
- Popcorn Days: For
25¢, your child can have a fresh bag of popcorn made by the PTC on two
Wednesdays each month. .
- Publicity/Photography: Pictures are taken at all school events by the PTC and
displayed on the bulletin board in the front hall of school. Once the pictures are taken down, they
are available for you to take home.
- Room Parents: Parents
who help the classroom teachers with holiday parties.
- Santa's Workshop: Your
children can do holiday shopping for the family in early December with their
classmates at school.
- Science Fair: A chance for
children to show their understanding of science. Held during school hours so all classes can view the
exhibits.
- Terrace After-school Program (TAP): After school program on Thursdays in February offers a
variety of fun classes to children for a reasonable fee. If you have a special talent or
expertise, we could use you to teach a class!
- Teacher Appreciation Week: This
week in February is filled with food, fun and appreciation for all the teachers
of Terrace.
- Terrascope: This hand-out
tells you all about how to be a part of the Terrace PTC. It is available at the General
Meetings, via the Terrace Times, and by request.
- Volunteers: We need you to
make all the above possible. Without volunteers there is no one to do all the wonderful things our
children and their teachers have come to enjoy from the Terrace PTC. Come to our meetings or
contact us to find out what else we do, and how you can be a part of it!
