History of the School

Terrace School was built in 1964 to serve students in western Des Plaines. The original property was 12 1/2 acres, which included the land that is now occupied by the Fire Department. The school served grades kindergarten through third grade.
As the population grew, so did the school. Terrace added additions in 1966, 1969, and 1971, which now house second through fifth grade classes, the library media center, and the Spark program. The school currently serves over 230 students, and Spark provides preschool as well as before and after-school programs at Terrace.
