Brenda Carle Memorial Bench Dedicated
A memorial bench was dedicated to primary social studies teacher, Brenda Carle, at South Elementary School, the last week of 2007-2008 school year.
Mrs. Carle, a dedicated and beloved teacher, died suddenly May 8, 2007 of heart failure. Mrs. Carle began her career as a third grade teacher at South School. She went on to teach third grade at Cumberland School and gifted (CHIP) classes at Plainfield, Orchard Place and South Schools. In 2005, Carle began teaching primary social studies in Grades 2-5 at South and North Elementary Schools.
The memorial was made possible through the contributions of the South Student Council and featured a Chicago Cubs pennant, stuffed Eeyore and squirrels, a music note, and classroom supplies, which were some of Mrs. Carle’s favorite interests.
The dedication of the memorial bench was highlighted by a tribute from retired South School Principal Mary Ellen Bleeden, and a reading by current South School Principal Lori Poelking.
Mrs. Carle’s husband, Lawrence, as well as numerous family members, friends and district administrators attended the ceremony with South students and staff.
