Message from the President of the Board of Education

Brenda Murphy, President of Board of Education

Dear Community Members,

Educating students is a continuous cycle. In this ongoing process we develop goals, strive to achieve those goals, assess success, and develop new goals based on what we learned.

During the past school year, the District achieved the last of the goals established by the Board of Education five years ago. In recent months the Board has spent significant time and energy considering a new goal that would provide direction for the District’s efforts in the future. As a result, the Board adopted the following goal: During the 2007-2008 school year Community Consolidated School District 62 will engage in a master planning process for continuous improvement in teaching and learning through improving learning environments, while maintaining financial stability.

The overarching principle which we embrace is continuous improvement. We continue to actively examine our practices to find more effective ways serve the educational needs of children in the classroom. Earlier this year, a small study of our buildings indicated that improvement was needed to allow our buildings to effectively facilitate student learning.

The Board decided to implement a master planning process that will allow thoughtful planning for continuous improvement in our programs and learning environments. The completed plan will guide the district in providing optimal learning opportunities for all students.

As always, the Board intends to accomplish all this at a reasonable cost in order to maintain the financial stability we have worked so hard to achieve.

You are encouraged to be part of this process. Your input is important to the success of our community’s schools. Please take an active role in working together to chart the path to the future for our children.

Brenda Murphy
Board of Education President
