Bullying Prevention


Two District 62 Schools Recognized for PBIS Program

Chippewa Middle School was recognized for Emerging, and Iroquois Community School was recognized for Implementing. They join 740 Illinois schools recognized their implementation efforts. The Illinois Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Network recently announced that two District 62 schools earned recognition for their efforts implementing PBIS during the 2011-2012 school year for one of five levels: Start-Up, Emerging, Implementing, Fully Implementing, or Exemplar.

Each school was presented a congratulatory letter along with a decal to display in their building. Chippewa and Iroquois will be recognized at the Network’s Summer and Winter Leadership Conferences. In addition, Iroquois received a congratulatory letter from Elizabeth Hanselman, Assistant Superintendent for Special Education and Support Services, Illinois State Board of Education.

PBIS focuses on improving school climate to expedite positive outcomes through effective evidence-based practices and data-based decision-making. The Illinois PBIS network builds the capacity of schools, families, and communities to promote social and academic success for all students, including those with emotional, behavioral, and other disabilities.

As part of Iroquois Community School's bully prevention program the staff and students produced this video titled, "It Happens Here", to best educate all stakeholders on what bullying is and to emphasize that by working together great change can occur.
