Professional Development

School District 62, as a Professional Learning Community, provides an array of professional development activities for teachers and other school staff to enhance their professional skills:

  • U62 (University 62) courses are offered to improve instruction and promote lifelong learning. Learn more about U62.
  • New teachers participate in an induction and mentoring program that follows the Charlotte Danielson Framework.
  • Staff Development workshops for district-wide initiatives and mandates are presented during designated Institute Days and other district-wide professional development days.
  • Staff development activities are developed at each school to address instructional priorities at the local school level.
  • Teachers meet on a regular basis during common planning time to share ideas, articulate common assessment and collaboratively plan instruction.
  • Through various grants, teachers and assistants participate in workshops to develop instructional knowledge and skills in a specific academic discipline.
  • Some scholarships are available to attend university courses leading to a higher degree
