Principal's Message / Mensaje de la Directora

Dear Orchard Place Families,

August 4, 2009 - We hope you have had an enjoyable and relaxing summer! We are looking forward to kicking off our first school year as an official “No Excuses University” (NEU) school. NEU is a group of schools from across the United States united in the belief that every one of our students has the innate ability to learn and holds a very bright college future ahead of them. We believe it is our responsibility as educators to ensure that every one of our students leave Orchard Place with the academic and social-emotional skills that will make them successful in middle school, high school, college, and beyond!

During the 2008-2009 school year, OP teachers connected with various colleges and universities throughout the country to “adopt” their classrooms. Through these partnerships, our students were able to learn more about college. OP students engaged in many college-related activities, including writing letters to college pen pals, visiting a local college campus, and attending all-school assemblies with college guest speakers. Throughout the summer, OP teachers have continued to reach out to colleges and universities to strengthen and expand these partnerships. We look forward to increasing students’ exposure to colleges and universities and to helping them to think more seriously about their academic and professional futures during the 2009-2010 school year.

We are very proud to be an NEU school and to be part of the Orchard Place School community. Every Monday at OP is “OP Spirit Day”. All staff and students wear their NEU t-shirts, OP spirit wear, or the school colors, blue and gold, on Mondays. NEU shirts will be distributed at our Parent Information Night on August 20. Please wear your shirt to school on Monday, August 24! “College Spirit Day” is celebrated every Friday at Orchard Place. Students and staff can wear college or university spirit-wear, or the college colors that each classroom has selected for the 2009-2010 school year.

Enjoy the remaining days of your summer break. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,

Sinceramente,
