PBIS
North School and PBIS –
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports
North School started the PBIS program at the end of the 2002-2003 school year. In September of 2008 North School received fully implementing status. "Congratulations to you and your dedicated staff at North Elementary School on being one of the 250 schools in Illinois recognized for outstanding efforts implementing PBIS for the 2007-2008 school year! Statewide Director for the Illinois Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports(PBIS) Network, informed the Illinois State Board of Education that your school reached "Implementing" status for PBIS as established by the Network.
PBIS is a system that organizes adults and students to create a social-culture in a school that encourages positive behavior and interactions while discouraging problem behaviors. This social-culture will lead to a safer environment where students achieve academically and build positive relationships with each other and with adults. PBIS helps adults and children at North School behave in a safe and respectful way so that students are ready to learn.
