Kiwanis Delivers Birthday Took Kit to Kindergarten Families – Des Plaines Kiwanis representatives Paul Hertel, Eldon Burke, and Brenda Murphy dropped off birthday bags for South Elementary School families in need to help celebrate their child¹s birthday. Last year, the group started this program at Plainfield Elementary School. Paul Hertel, Kiwanis president-elect, said that they plan to provide more than 100 bags during the 2014-2015 school year to Plainfield and South. Through the annual Peanut Day drive, Kiwanis also provides shoes and boots for students in need.

Business and Community Resource Guide – Several Des Plaines corporations and community organizations are interested in, or are working with students in School District 62. Organizations benefit from an organized process for recruiting collaborating schools. This Guide highlights interested community partners and allows schools to select programs and services to support their school community. The Guide provides:

  • A process for schools to learn about services that may meet schools' needs
  • A planning horizon for schools to consider their needs and concentrates the time they spend in recruitment and/or being recruited
  • Opportunities for corporate and community programs to reach school communities and showcase programs and services
  • Facilitates collaboration and matches school needs with quality services and programs.

This guide contains information about programs and services for schools to review with their teaching teams and/or school communities. Schools interested in collaborating can use this resource to manage the requests and coordinate their needs with organizational capacity.
