Principal's Message
Dear Iroquois Families,
This letter is intended to share some basic information about Iroquois school in Community Consolidated School District 62. ICS is School District 62’s open enrollment, option school, meaning any student residing in District 62 is eligible to apply to attend.
Since Iroquois opened in July 1997, Des Plaines families have been offered programming for students in Kindergarten through Eighth grade. The grade configuration of K-8 is different than that of other schools in District 62, eight of which are K-5 Grade Schools, and two that are Middle Schools, grades 6 – 8.
Another significant difference is our school calendar. We are considered a year-round school. For clarification, year-round does not mean we have any more school days for our students than other schools. Rather, it means we use a different school calendar to educate our students by using a more balanced calendar. A balanced calendar means we start school at around the end of July, and attend nine (9) weeks of school, which takes us to the end of September. We then have a three (3) week Intersession and start the cycle again for the remaining three quarters. An intersession, for those who are not aware, is a two-week, parent funded interactive class that is not only remedial, but also extra curricular by design. Furthermore, camp is also a component of intersession, where students can just have fun. As a point of reference, research has indicated academic advantages for students who are involved in a year-round calendar.
Finally, although this is a very brief description of Iroquois, it would be my pleasure to sit with you and further discuss the benefits our K-8, Year-round, multiage school. Please feel free to contact me at anytime to schedule an appointment.
Respectfully,
Michael Amadei, Principal
