Principal Message

This letter is intended to share some basic information about our school in Community Consolidated School District 62 - Iroquois Community School (ICS). ICS is a School of Choice, meaning any student residing in District 62 is eligible to attend. We are NOT a Magnet School and/or Charter School. We are a public school in District 62. Since many of you may not be familiar with our school, I would like to share some information with you to help you better understand one of the school options in District 62.

ICS opened in July, 1997. Our school offers programming for students in Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. The grade configuration (K-8) is different than the other school in District 62 which have eight (8) Kindergarten - Fifth Grade Schools, and two (2) Middle Schools (Grades 6 - 8).

Another major difference is our school calendar. We are considered a year-round school. For clarification, year-round does NOT mean we have any more school days for our students than other schools. Rather, it means we use a different school calendar to educate our students by using a more balanced calendar. In general, we start school at the end of July, and have nine (9) weeks of school which takes us to the end of September. We then have a three (3) week "Intersession" (I'll explain this later!) and start the cycle again (9 - 10 weeks of school, and an Intersession.). As a point of reference, research has indicated academic advantages for students who are involved in a year-round calendar.

The weeks in which ICS does NOT have school (for example, the end of September and the first part of October), and other District 62 school are in session, we provide an "Intersession Program." This is a program available (for cost) for students. The Program consists of a mini-camp, academic classes, and enrichment classes.

Again, the purpose of this letter is to give you a basic understanding of our school. This information is intended to remind you we are an option for families that live anywhere within the District 62 boundaries. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 847-824-1308.
