Principal's Message
Forest School is truly a wonderful place to learn and grow.
Forest School is part of Des Plaines Community Consolidated School District #62 and shares its campus with Algonquin Middle School to the north.
The teachers at Forest School are knowledgeable, caring and committed to helping each child develop to his/her fullest potential. The teachers believe in a balanced literacy approach providing instruction in word study, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary and writing. Mathematics instruction focuses on concept development, problem solving and basic fact fluency. Students are also instructed in science and social studies.
Students also receive instruction in physical education, art and vocal music/drama. Students in grades 1-3 receive physical education instruction twice per week for 30 minutes. Physical education/health instruction is provided to 4th-5th grade students for 150 minutes per week. All students in grades 1-5 receive 45 minutes of art instruction each week. Vocal music/drama instruction is provided three times a week for 30 minutes to students in grades 1-5. All 5th grade students are welcome and encouraged to participate in the instrumental music programs: band or orchestra.
In addition to developing the brain and academic potential of our students, Forest teachers also encourage the heart through character development, sportsmanship, and social skills training. Forest students are recognized for being “Fine Feathered Friends” when they demonstrate behaviors that are respectful, responsible and safe.
