Dear Community,
On February 19, the School District 62 Foundation Board hosted a Benefit Dinner at Grazie! Ristorante in Des Plaines. On behalf of the children in the District 62 schools, the Foundation Board thanks every community member, business, state and local official, teacher, and parent who supported this fundraising effort. More than 250 individuals enjoyed a lovely dinner, outstanding musical entertainment provided by Howl at the Moon, a silent auction, and raffles. Many thanks to all who attended and to our major donors—Cynthia Morgan of Interactive Campus Technologies, R. C. Wahl Jewelers of Des Plaines, Wight & Company, Franczek Radelet, Johnson Controls, Arthur J. Gallagher, The Estate of Robert Cowell, Jeanine LaCerba of Gigi’s Blossoms and Baskets, and Nick Mitchell of Grazie! Ristorante.
Thanks to your generous support, the Foundation was able to raise almost $15,000 for our mini-grants and other programs that benefit every child in the District 62 schools. The next event the Foundation is sponsoring is a special program on the Prevention of Bullying on April 6 at Algonquin Middle School at 7:00 PM. Betty Murphy and Maxine Hubbard, Co-Presidents School District 62 Foundation
On Friday, October 23, 2009, the 4th graders at Orchard Place went to visit Loyola University Chicago. The trip was made possible because of a generous grant received from the District 62 Education Foundation. Orchard Place has recently been accepted into a network of schools called No Excuses University. Our belief is that every child has the right to be prepared to attend college. The hope is that the memory of this trip will last well beyond their days at Orchard Place; leaving an impression upon them that will help drive their academic journey towards college and beyond!
As a result of the grant, the 4th graders spent a day touring Loyola’s lake front campus in Rogers Park. The visit consisted of a tour that took students around the campus, visiting buildings such as the Information Commons, the Student Union, the Gentile Center, and the Halas Sports Center. With the help of Dr. Dorothy Giroux, Dr. Jane Hunt, and Dr. Ernestine Riggs, students from Kappa Delta Pi (an International Honor Society in Education organization) broke the students into 4 groups as they toured the campus. Students were also shown a video about Loyola and played a college trivia game designed by their tour guides. Each student was given a t-shirt and a Loyola bag that had a small plastic basketball inside to remember their college visit to Loyola University Chicago.
We can’t thank enough the District 62 Education Foundation and all those individuals at Loyola who made this trip possible! Beyond the individuals already mention, we also need to thank Ms. Carolyn Vellos O’Connell (Senior Associate Athletic Director) and Ms. Karen Laguatan (Assistant Director of the Alumni Association) for their help in securing some of the memorable items for the students. Orchard Place looks forward to continuing their relationship with Loyola University!
Give a Wish a Home
Since it began, District 62 Education Foundation has provided funding for student projects and programs through its Mini-Grant and Gift Program. Two years ago, the Foundation introduced the Give a Wish a Homeprogram. Give a Wish A Home provides supplies, resources, and equipment to teachers and their classrooms that may not be covered by the school budget.
If you would like to grant a wish, contact Karen Pedersen, Foundation Board. Indicate the school, item(s), and the amount you would like to sponsor. Your gift can be made in the form of cash, check, or the requested equipment and supplies. All donations are tax deductible. Please help the District 62 Education Foundation offer opportunities for our children. Your support is vital.
Our Grant Program
The purpose of the Foundation's Grant Program is to create additional opportunities for all District 62 students by funding programs and projects that:
promote student development through enrichment activities
encourage staff creativity and excellence
develop connections between our schools and our community
The Board
