Partnerships
Central School and the Heritage of Des Plaines created a formal partnership in 2006. The senior residents of the Heritage and the students of Central School work together in many ways. The Heritage has provided Central School with funds raised during its ongoing penny drive, donated school supplies for needy children, provided assistance to children with various learning games and artwork, attended vocal music concerts and provided veterans to speak at our Veteran’s Day celebration.
The students of Central School visit the Heritage in order to provide activities for the residents and practice academic skills. The students also write letters to residents to practice writing skills and provide residents with friendly letters and mail. Residents are also invited to Central School to assist in classrooms and to attend concerts and plays.
The interactions between the senior residents and students of Central School greatly benefit both groups. The children put a smile on the residents’ faces and provide them with ongoing activities and the children learn from the experience of the Heritage residents.
