2008-09 School Year
Welcome!
Welcome to Algonquin Middle School. I hope all of our returning seventh and eighth grade students, as well as our new sixth graders, are as excited about our new school year as I am. Algonquin has a lot to offer its students, from clubs and sports to music performance and drama. Along with our academic and extracurricular programs, Algonquin also offers the chance to build lasting relationships with classmates, teachers, and staff. Our diverse population ensures a “real world” experience, one that reflects all of the strengths of the Des Plaines community. Come and be a part of Algonquin pride!
-Mr. Swanson, Principal

Red Carpet Rolled Out for Student Academy Awards
Recently, Algonquin Middle School students premiered movies that they created as part of their Language Arts and Literacy classes. Awards were presented in several categories, including best picture, best story adaptation, and best costume. Dressed in their best, students walked the red carpet on their way to the Library Media Center, where the movies were shown.
The project, which was partially funded by a District 62 Foundation grant, encourages students to practice their writing skills (drafting, editing, and publishing), hone their presentation and communications skills through the use of drama, and integrate technology with the use of cameras, garage band, and iMovie. Each student wrote a 500-word mystery, which was submitted to student groups who narrowed down the entries to one story that could be adapted and scripted into i-Movies.
